Luke 24:1-49
Easter is one of the most amazing times of the year! Last week, we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! With Easter in our rear view mirrors, what next? In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus gives some instructions on what should happen in light of the resurrection.
Instruction #1: Jesus Offered a Stern Rebuke
“But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed like nonsense (Luke 24:11, NIV).”
“He said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?’ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself (Luke 24:25-27, NIV).”
The disciples have failed to believe all that the prophets had spoken. Are you guilty of failing to believe the Bible and live obediently to its words?
Instruction #2: Jesus gave a Clear Command
“And repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things (Luke 24:47-48, NIV).”
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20, NIV).”
Are you obediently living out the Great Commission? Are you a living example of the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you teach others to obey all everything that God has commanded us by the way that you live?
Instruction #3: Jesus promised the Holy Spirit
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised (Luke 24:49, NIV).”
Believing isn’t an intellectual acknowledgement. It is full reliance on the Lord Jesus Christ as the crucified, resurrected Savior.
God empowers us to do that which He has commanded us to do and called us to do by His Holy Spirit.
Are you fully relying on the Holy Spirit to enable you to obediently live for Christ and victoriously serve Him?
