The Doctrine of Holiness: Live it Out!
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
We find peace and comfort in the truth that our Holy Father sits on the throne of Heaven
Everyone longs for a world ruled by a Holy God
Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
All true purpose and meaning are found in light of His Holy
God uses even the hardest things to produce the most wonderful things.
6:2-4 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts:
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
The Holiness of God is to be at the center of your thoughts
Your sense of identity and purpose, the goals of your life, how you use your time, energy, money, and how you use your gifts and abilities must be connected to this declaration
Holy means to be set apart. To live out the doctrine of God’s Holiness we should be set apart from the ways of the world.
The holiness of God is meant to be the ultimate pursuit of our lives
1 Peter 1:13-19 “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be Holy, for I am holy.”
Peter says we are not only called to obey the Lord, but to pursue to be holy as he is holy. This is the highest value in our lives.
6:5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
The Holiness of God confronts us with the sinfulness of sin
We can always see the effect of sin in ourselves and those around us, but we forget that sin is always vertical and an offense against a Holy God.
Psalms 51:4 “ Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight- That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge”
The Holiness of God provides the only reliable means of knowing ourselves
Without the grace of God to reveal a glimpse of His Holiness to us, we would see ourselves as more righteous, wiser, and stronger than we are, ever were, or ever will be.
Confess to God of your sin, your attempt to hide it, and your comfortability with it.
6:6-7 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin atoned for.”
The Holiness of God is the reason we’ll never outgrow God’s grace
The grace of the Holy One doesn’t take dependent people and make them independent.
Rather it takes independent people and produces in them a deeper and more willing dependency on Him.
1 Timothy 1:15-16 “ This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering; as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said “Here am I! Send me.”
The atonement of our sins before the presence of our holy God should motivate our hearts in willingness and submission to serve Him
Great fear of God cultivates a great love for God.
Every child of God that has been called to the saving grace of Christ has also been called to minister for His name, to use the gifts He’s given you wherever you are.
